founded in mumbai, farting films llp is a production company committed to breaking boundaries across cinema, contemporary art, and visual culture. helmed by filmmaker and artist nemil shah alongside co-founder rajesh shah, the company was born out of an urge to create space for projects that defy market conventions and resist easy categorization. with an unapologetically irreverent name, farting films stands as a platform for storytelling that is visceral, brave, and constantly evolving.
while film is our primary form, it is not our only one. farting films operates at the intersection of independent cinema and contemporary art, developing and producing a diverse spectrum of work that ranges from experimental fiction and docu-fiction to video installations, multi-sensory art environments, photographic narratives, and durational performance pieces. our creations often explore themes of the body, memory, and labor through a tactile and sensorial lens, embracing new languages of form and representation.
our work has traveled across prestigious festivals and biennales, with projects like the nose picker, shot on kodak super 8 mm and showcased at thailand biennale 2024, and dal bhat, a national award-winning short film that was official entry to the academy awards. we are currently developing 7 to 7, our debut fiction feature supported by the asian cinema fund (busan), and a dog is sneezing away birds at the fish market, a docu-fiction gore project rooted in sensuality.
in 2024, acclaimed indian producer and director pushpendra singh joined farting films as a producer on two of our upcoming projects, marking a significant step in the expansion of our narrative and artistic scope. his presence brings a valuable synergy of independent vision and rigour that aligns with our ethos.
parallel to our independent and experimental work, farting films also operates a thriving commercial vertical that services advertisements, corporate films, and branded content. this coexistence between the commercial and the avant-garde is not oppositional but deliberate, enabling us to sustain and self-produce challenging work without compromise.
farting films is not merely a production company, it is a community of collaborators, technicians, thinkers, and misfits working across disciplines to create art that is intimate and political, deeply rooted and defiantly global. whether it is a film in a dark room or an installation in a rainforest, our work seeks to puncture the everyday, disrupt aesthetic comfort zones, and most of all, stay honest to the act of farting, involuntary, human, and unfiltered.
